Scribe Writing Essentials Shangri-La is NOW OPEN!

Scribe Writing Essential Store in Shangrila

Scribe Writing Essential Store in Shangrila

Scribe opens new doors and keeps the tradition of reading and writing live

In this day and age when everything is about high technology gadgets, there still thrives a store where one can find traditional reading and writing products. Like every girl, the store owner went through a phase of collecting stationeries and cute knick knacks and this is how the whole business started. It actually started only as a hobby in college where she and her sister-in-law would sell specialty items in bazaars during Christmas. As many people asked where they can find the stuff when the bazaar season is over, they realized the demand. They then got into distribution and started supplying the big bookstores and specialty stores until they opened their very first store 8 years later. This was in Eastwood Mall in 2009. Fast forward to 2014, there are now 5 branches with the flagship store located at the new East Wing of the luxurious Shangri-La Plaza Mall.

This is the story of how SCRIBE Writing Essentials came to be. Scribe has been in the trading business since 2002. The company started with the importation and distribution of imported reading and writing products from the US, Europe and Asia. Due to the huge success of its products, Scribe was inspired to grow its selection and it now has more than 15 brands in its portfolio. It has been particularly successful in the fine writing and calligraphy business as evidenced by being the exclusive distributor of some of the world’s most premium and sought-after fine writing and calligraphy brands such as Pelikan, Sailor, Platinum, TWSBI, J. Herbin, Brause and Speedball. And most recently, Cross and Lamy also joined the roster of fine writing pens available in Scribe. The store also started developing its own in-house products under the SCRIBE brand to cater to the mid and lower-end markets but without compromising the quality of its items.

Marian Yu-Ong, Scribe Writing Essentials Owner

Scribe Writing Essentials owner Marian Yu-Ong says, “I always believed that you should do what you love. That is why it was only fitting that I made a business out of specialty reading and writing
products which I’ve loved ever since I was a kid.” The store is a one-stop gift and paper specialty store. The vision was for it to be a place where our customers can find unique and inspiring gifts for a special friend, family or oneself. Ong adds, “We pride ourselves with the best selection of reading and writing accessories, all of which are carefully selected and imported by our company from all over the world. We also have unique services such as the customizing of seals which is as far as I know, is only offered by us and a gift wrapping bar with a wide selection of imported papers and cards to compliment your purchase or gift for any occasion.”

Though the store has increased the brands and selection over the years, the company’s objective remains the same, which is to provide exclusive and high quality products and accessories that enhance the joys of reading and writing. The store takes pride in offering the best brands and it aims to continue to bring quality products and brands from all over the world into the hands of discerning customers.

Scribe Writing Essentials now has 5 branches located in the following malls: Eastwood Mall, SM Aura Premier, SM Megamall Fashion Hall. Glorietta 5 and the new flagship store at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, East Wing.

With the store’s rapid growth, the dream now is to bring the brand outside Metro Manila and to continue sourcing world class brands. But at the moment, Ong is quite happy where Scribe is right now. She never thought that there will be 5 branches! Ong discloses, “Before we even think of expanding further I’d first like to make sure that all 5 stores are well taken cared of and that no part of our customer service or product selection suffers.” She also wants Scribe to be more involved in the community by supporting educational campaigns, conducting art and writing workshops and by helping those in need.

Recently, Scribe teamed up with world renowned Korean opera superstar SUMI JO in her February 1 concert in Manila. Proceeds of the concert were donated to the victims of typhoon Yolanda through
UNESCO. It is projects like these that Scribe wants to be more involved in the future.

What Do You Stand For?

INTRODUCING DR.MARTENS AW/13 CAMPAIGN
WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?

Throughout Dr. Martens history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by countless rebellious characters,
subcultures and tribes. Dr. Martens wearers bring the shoes and boots to life, and should be recognized. These
are the people who stand out from the crowd in their own unique way and for many, their journey of selfexpression
has always been accompanied by a pair of Dr. Martens.

ShairaLuna

ShairaLuna

Dr. Martens A/W-13 campaign celebrates free-thinking individuals; from the first timers to those who have been with
us forever. The campaign represents people of different ages, backgrounds, occupations and personalities who all
have one thing in common – they wear Dr. Martens boots and shoes with pride and passion, an empowering mark of
something worth standing for.

THE #STANDFORSOMETHING MULTIMEDIA EXHIBIT SEPTEMBER 27 2013 FRIDAY

The exhibit represents the campaign in its most organic and truthful form. As artists showcase what they stand for
through their art, guests can do the same by writing what THEY stand for on the canvas floor, dip their docs in the dirt
area and stomp away in their Docs. The #STANDFORSOMETHING campaign is raw, truthful, unique and won’t stand for
bullshit. The Dr. Martens team presents the exhibit area as directly to the point as possible, no perfect cookie-cutter
exposition.

“The greatest person you could ever meet is yourself.”

As a Fashion Photographer and a blogger, I stand for loving yourself first.

It is not narcissism, it is appreciating, discovering and knowing your true self’s strengths and weaknesses to freely bring out the best in you.
