A Match Made in Sea Heaven
Design icon Diane Von Furstenberg collaborates with well-loved surf apparel brand Roxy to come up with a feisty collection for free-spirited sophisticates’.
All decked out in their white, light, and breezy outfits – media bigwigs, it-bloggers, and the most prolific fashion players gathered for one of the season’s talk-of-the-town event. The buzz is all about Roxy’s much-awaited launch of its collaboration with iconic designer Diane Von Furstenberg.
It was on the cool midsummer evening of March 12, when the fashion launch was befittingly orchestrated by the seawall side garden of Sofitel Philippine Plaza. Attended only by the metro’s crème dela crème, all the chic denizens were in for a pleasant night – an occasion which treated their senses with refreshing rounds of cocktails, delightful amuse bouche, and an exclusive sneak peek of a highly-covetable fashion collection.
As attendees began to relax amid the exotic ambiance, the program began rolling as the night’s hosts Nicola Sebastian and Lui Tortuya, took the stage to welcome guests. To heighten the excitement of everyone present, an audio-visual presentation was screened to show a bit of what they can expect.
What followed was a menagerie of visual pleasures as Nicola Sebastian and Lui Tortuya signaled the beginning of the anticipated fashion show. Models strutted down the runway, finally revealing lust-worthy pieces that featured sophisticated prints of florals, vintage patterns, and refined silhouettes – aesthetics that are signature Diane Von Furstenberg.
Not one to be muted by mediocrity and dullness, Roxy’s style DNA married harmoniously with Furstenberg’s trailblazing design spirit. Furstenberg professes her love for the beach culture, and expressed her excitement about working with Roxy, saying, “we wanted to empower women to go for it and ride the wave!” The result? A collection that celebrates the fun, fearless, and definitive beauty of femininity – no less than all the characteristics which make for an ideal Roxy and DVF woman.
Deviating away from the traditional take on surf style fashion, the collection features fun hints of nostalgia reminiscent of groovy retro patterns, made tasteful and sophisticated with elegant cuts. A one-time-only collection, the line includes boardshorts, rashguards, and swimwear.
After all the oohs and aahs, Chinky De Guzman, Roxy’s Brand Associate talked briefly about the collection. As a symbol of gratitude for those who came, a spirit concoction called the DVF Loves Roxy Signature Cocktail was served among the attendees – sealing the night’s captivating presentation with an equally bewitching treat.
Roxy is a compelling apparel brand that has built its unique heritage on the surf culture and the philosophy of empowering women. By collaborating with an equally formidable female force in the fashion industry, Roxy strengthens its stand – encouraging women to follow their hearts and dare to conquer.
